About the Hyde Park Street Fair

The Hyde Park Street Fair in the Boise’s Camel’s Back Park is the annual fund raising and informational effort by the North End Neighborhood Association. It is one of the largest neighborhood events of its kind anywhere.

The Hyde Park Street Fair benefits the North End Neighborhood Association and attracts artisans and vendors from all over the west and as many as 40,000 people over the weekend run. Billed as a “neighborhood picnic”, it rivals citywide events in communities as large as Tacoma and Spokane.

A Little History

The Hyde Park Street Fair was the first event put on by the newly formed Hyde Park Merchant’s Association founded in 1979. It was a hippie art, crafts and music celebration that you would expect in the 70’s and early 80’s.

Tables and booths were set out in the middle of 13th Street in Hyde Park with power supplied by a tangled web of extension cords. Tie-dyed clothing was the uniform of choice. My recollection tells me 500 or so people attended that first Hyde Park Street Fair.

The event grew and the merchants enlisted the support of the North End Neighborhood Association for help. HPMA and NENA representatives were co-chairs of the event in 1987 and that year included the first mention – in this article =- of an event being held at Camel’s Back Park.

Eventually NENA did take the event over with the blessings of Hyde Park neighbors and our local merchants who had started it. The Hyde Park Street Fair was completely moved to Camels Back Park in 1990 in order to accommodate the increasing attendance and demand for space. Click here for information about Camel’s Back Park.

Over 120 booths featuring local and regional Arts and Crafts, Live Music, Nonprofit Groups, Food, Beer and Wine Garden, and much more! The event takes place in Camel’s Back Park (13th and Heron Streets) in Boise’s Historic Neighborhood – The North End.

Proceeds of this event go the North End Neighborhood Association who supports several new neighborhood projects each year through direct contributions or F.I.N.E. grants. Many other community and neighborhood nonprofit groups and organizations benefit directly from the HPSF!
